Verbier is an oasis for extreme skiers and those who enjoy the finer things in life, it is a thrilling holiday destination for those seeking a stylish and energetic ski resort. Verbier is part of the world renowned Four Valleys ski area which includes four other ski resorts and a thigh-throbbing 410km of marked runs.
Verbier is renowned for its premier off piste and itinerary runs. It is home to the formidable Mont Gelé, one of the few mountains in the world accessible by ski lift with no groomed runs – only off piste. Verbier is also home to Tortin, often referred to as one of the scariest ski runs in the world. The resort is a mecca for those wishing to push their skiing to the max.
The resort also features a glamorous array of shops and some of the world’s finest restaurants. It contains an exciting nightlife scene, where people from all over the world come together to enjoy a relaxing drink after a hard day on the slopes.
Verbier’s skiing is widely celebrated for the diversity it offers. The beautiful and gentle runs of Savoleyres and Bruson also offer hidden gems of that longed-for fresh powder that is popular with the locals during the high seasons. While the main ski areas above Medran lift station will forever offer some of the most extreme off piste in Europe.
Verbier boasts some high-up beginner to intermediate runs which allow not so experienced skiers to enjoy the views and atmosphere of the top of the mountain. Lac de Vaux and sunny La Chaux are perfect for skiers wanting to get off the beginners slopes in the town. La Chaux is where you can stop halfway and spot some spectacular tricks and falls going on in the snow park. For piste skiers the spectacular views at Verbier’s highest point Mont Fort are a must-see, and if you dare, they can be followed by a nail-biting but short run which will leave you feeling extremely proud of yourself!
Verbier encourages the more adventurous skiers with their ‘itineraries’ (marked off piste runs). The most infamous being that of Tortin if you fancy an immense field of moguls followed by a path to rest those wobbly legs. For those wishing to avoid some of the more devious-looking bumps, a short traverse along towards the right can bring you to chopped and perhaps fresh powder if you are lucky! For more of a varying itinerary run, Vallon d’Arby’s mixture of windy paths, moguls and open slopes through forests and past waterfalls will feel like an adventure not experienced anywhere else. For the most devoted off piste skiers Verbier is the place to follow some popular hikes such as Stairway-to-Heaven, Rock Garden and down the back of Mont Fort (accompanied by mountain guides and all the appropriate safety equipment of course).
